New Year, New Home

The Jewish New Year has begun, and this is the time to start fresh. Whether you have just moved into a new home, or have been looking for that perfect piece to complete the Jewish home you live in, you'll want your home and the people inside to be blessed and protected for the coming year.

The mezuzah, which contains the words of the Shema, is placed on the doorpost of a home, and on the inner doorposts within the home. We place mezuzot on the doorposts of our homes to fulfill the mitzvah of inscribing the words of the Shema "on the doorposts of your house and on your gates". The piece of parchment on which the words of the mezuzah are inscribed are placed within beautiful pieces of art, which we then adhere to our doorposts.

Ruth Shapiro continues to create a collection of mezuzot that are original, intricate, and exquisite. Her metal mezuzot are all hand-crafted, and vary from classical to contemporary to whimsical and fun. The artist's sense of humor and warmth are sprinkled throughout her work, which have come to be known as ''miniature treasures in the world of Judaica.''

Add a work of art from Ruth Shapiro to the doorpost of your home today, and may your home be filled with peace, joy, and blessing in the New Year and beyond.
